How Andi AI Runs a 28-Billion-Page Search Index on DigitalOcean

I've been building on AWS since it first became publicly available, and it's about 10x faster to set things up on DigitalOcean. Our agent frameworks work especially well with DigitalOcean, too; it's the platform where we move fastest.

Co-Founder and CTO, Andi AI

Andi AI is an AI-native agentic search platform and API created for the current era of search, led by two people. It’s designed to cut through the increasing amount of AI-generated results and paid company placements to provide the content users want.

“When we first launched Andi AI, we realized that accuracy and quality of the content are the biggest bottlenecks for search. You get a lot of spam and ads at the top of search results. Agents need accurate, high-quality information that they can parse quickly,” says Angela Hoover, CEO and Co-Founder of Andi AI.

Andi AI helps users can chat with the search assistant to summarize and explain information, and AI agents can also use it as a search engine. Having a dual audience of humans and agents means that Andi AI’s index must satisfy both a person typing a question and an autonomous agent parsing results in a loop.

To create a consistent, accurate AI search for its users, the team has built an index of 28 billion pages that serves as an information repository for agents and human users, accessible via the company’s API or web console. In addition to console usage, the API receives over 125k calls every month, with a growing number coming from agents rather than humans.

The technology runs on DigitalOcean Droplets and Spaces Object Storage. It’s also backed by a proactive technical support team, enabling the Andi AI founders to spend more time on development rather than firefighting or configuration. Andi AI reports 100% uptime on DigitalOcean since March 2026, with sub-500ms response times on the main Andi AI app.

Accelerating infrastructure with ease of use

Because the team behind Andi AI is two people (Hoover and Jed White, CTO and Co-Founder) and experiences periods of intense technical growth, they needed a cloud provider that could reliably deliver on-demand infrastructure.

Vendor evaluation started at a couple of billion indexed pages, Hoover explains, as it was clear that this project would grow and require a lot of accessible storage at scale. They had worked with other cloud providers and knew what they needed next: fast setup, reliable capacity, and responsive support. They found all three at DigitalOcean, and Andi AI moved its index over through the DigitalOcean Startup Program.

“The experience of trying to get things set up or even getting allocation can be really difficult [on other cloud providers]. So if you’re starting to hit a scaling period, you want to have infrastructure in place so you’re not worried about system failures,” Hoover says.

Time is essential, and working with hyperscaler cloud providers often requires extensive, niche expertise that smaller development teams might not have in-house. White wanted a provider that would reduce the day-to-day DevOps burden, and knowing that DigitalOcean has extensive built-out capabilities for their needs made it a top choice for him.

“I’ve been building on AWS since it first became publicly available, and it’s about 10x faster to set things up on DigitalOcean. Our agent frameworks work especially well with DigitalOcean, too; it’s the platform where we move fastest,” says White.

Full-circle support and savings

Working with DigitalOcean also brought the team cost savings and greater scalability. According to Hoover, the migration and re-architecture process cut spend from ~$125K/month with other providers to $5-10K/mo on DigitalOcean (supported primarily with DigitalOcean Startup Credits), a 90%+ overall cost reduction.*

But the biggest benefit Hoover mentioned about working with DigitalOcean is its personable support team, which helps Andi AI’s infrastructure run smoothly and proactively address projects as new developments arise.

At previous providers, Hoover dealt with constantly changing contacts, making it hard to build relationships and also have consistent technical expertise. After a few months, she’d find that her main support contact would move or account managers would shift. Every time the support team switched, it meant bringing new staff up to speed and deciding which projects to focus on, making it tough to maintain development momentum.

“One thing about DigitalOcean that I’ve really appreciated is the customer experience. I feel like I actually know you folks. It feels like you’re actually getting to know the [Andi AI] team and building out a relationship,” Hoover says.

Expanding next-generation search with DigitalOcean

Andi AI is processing thousands of API queries a day and growing, and agent signups to its console climbed 10% daily since early September 2026 (from agent discovery) as the company leans into agent-focused search. Within the next 6 months, the company plans to scale with DigitalOcean to index another 10 to 30 billion pages.

With DigitalOcean, both Hoover and White know they can get on-demand infrastructure and proactive technical support so they can scale as quickly as possible without worrying about availability issues.

"Reliability is a necessity, and you don’t want to guess if you’ll have it with your infrastructure. That’s why it’s important to invest early because having the right vendor and support makes all the difference,” Hoover explains.
