Question

Building up a Website, what do I need?

I’ve been busy the last 5 days to build my own website from 0 with different guides in the web. I always ended up having trouble with MariaDB. Not only that, but I messed the Server up because of the many guides with different strategies. I’ve rested my now and would like to start over. For now, I have set up the LAMP Stack with the Guide from Erika Heidi https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-install-linux-apache-mysql-php-lamp-stack-on-ubuntu-20-04 Which just worked perfectly, thanks Erika

So now I’m about to add a DNS-Server and try to set up SSL to make my website more secure.

The DNS of my choice is Bind9, I am working with Ubuntu 20.4.

Any tips on how to continue with my Website?

My Goals and Use for the Website are:

Blogging with Pictures, videos and Text Mail Further Future Web shop abilities Guests being able to register on my website

I feel like having a bit of an Overflow of Information from the web.

I’m an IT beginner and would love to make this work properly.

Thanks for the feedbacks

Greetings from Zurich, Switzerland

Marc

Hello,

Really happy to hear that Erika’s tutorial helped you, I will pass this over to her.

I would not go for running your own nameservers directly on the same server as your website. You could instead use the free DNS service provided by DigitalOcean, that way all you would need to do is to add your domain name to your DigitalOcean account, add your DNS records there and change your nameservers to the DigtitalOcean ones.

For more information on how to do that, you could take a look at the documentation here:

https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/networking/dns/

Hope that this helps! Regards, Bobby
