Can't connect to an activation server through Wordpress dashboard

September 9, 2014 1.4k views

I have set up a Droplet for a client that is using Wordpress and a membership plug in that requires activation via the wordpress dashboard. As far as I know I haven't set up any firewall or port blocking on this droplet. When they try to activate the membership plugin they get the following error:

This check ensures that your server will allow your site to connect with the WishList Member Activation and Update Center. This enables license activation and the ability to display notifications of WishList Member version updates on your WL Dashboard.

Access being denied to the Activation and Update Center can happen if your server/hosting provider is blocking requests to the WishList Member licensing server.

If this is the case, you would need to request the server/hosting provider to configure their firewall to allow access to the Activation and Update Center.

Here is the information that will be required by the server/hosting provider in order to accomplish this request:

IP Address : 54.236.173.27
Port : 80
Domain Name: wishlistactivation.com
File Requesting Access : wishlist-member/wpm.php
Purpose of Connection : Software License Activation

Note the server/hosting provider will allow need to allow the following:

IP Address : 50.28.57.7
Port : 80
Domain Name: wishlistproducts.com
File Requesting Access : wishlist-member/wpm.php
Purpose of Connection : Software updates, version checking and news feed

Where do I begin to trouble shoot this?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

  • No firewall or port blocking is present on any droplet by default that would prevent your droplet from accessing this remote service. I would recommend checking that you can resolve the domain names given and that your droplet can otherwise reach them. You can do this with the ping command:

    ping -c 3 wishlistactivation.com
