Cant use SSH to connect to server (mac)

March 3, 2015 4.8k views

I m running mac os x yosemite
I m trying to connect to my server using SSH
The command was ssh root@(hostname) through terminal
It didn't responded timeout after few seconds.

Users-MacBook-Air:~ user$ ssh root@
ssh: connect to host port 22: Operation timed out

Whats the solution to this?
Thank you

  • I connect all day long to my droplets on OS X Yosemite (a mac book air as well). I figure your issue is with the droplet not the Mac. Use the clunky web interface on DO and see if something is wrong with the SSH config.

Scan the ip with NMAP that might give you some insight.

  • It's strange, but I also can't connect to my server via SSH! Yesterday everything was OK and worked great, but now I get Operation timed out. And my Rails application on this server also don't respond.
Maybe it depends on Region? I'm using New York 2.

  • ktarasx I would think your problem is the droplet or DO. Set up a temporary droplet in another data center (hourly billing yeah!) and run some tests from it. Nmap, ping, tracerout....

  • And remember guys, this is a great development platform and a wonderful place to learn. If your income is dependent on it... go someplace else.
