Command line types ^[ before each letter

Hi, I have so much trouble simply logging in as root
Instead of root, it displays ^[r^[o^[o^[t and probably the same thing happens with the password.
How can I get that server to simply understand I type root?

  • Let's try this: run this command (replacing your-ip with the servers IP or hostname):

    ssh root@your-ip 'cat .bashrc; echo ============================;cat /etc/bashrc'

    Once you've gotten the results, paste them here. This will allow us to see if there is anything in your default environment that's causing this.
