Hi there,

I would need to move a client site from a shared hosting environment to a dedicated hosting / cloud server. It is a wordpress multisite network, not too complicated, just four domains, mapped to top level geographic domains. three subdomains with standard low traffic, main domain a little more accessed. I installed caching, compressed files, enabled browser cache....the website is always very slow especially for american visitors. Cam I use your service for a production web server to deploy my client wordpress website? what kind of instance should I setup?

  • Yes, you can run a production website on a digitalocean droplet.

a $10.00 droplet would be a good start. Are you familiar with running a web-server?

    I prefer Ubuntu 14.04 server.

Creating a swap, securing ssh, and changing the default Wordpress login page will be some good things to do straight away.

  • Actually I am not really familiar with running a web server from scratch. I use plesk control panel to manage my production server and I wouldn't know how to setup a production (solid and secure) web server. Is there any ready made droplet? I am also more familiar with Debian than Ubuntu.

I would just need the web server, apache with mod_rewrite, gzip, compression, MySQL. Would I need a firewall?
