Hey friend,

Great question! I highly recommend using rsync for this. It’s definitely my go-to for copying data from one server to another.

Rsync is a simple tool for intelligently syncing local and remote directories. In this article we will explore the basic usage of this utility to copy files from directory to directory and from system to system.
  • can you please explain me how to use it . i have a 2 droplet one is old and one is new i want data from old droplet to new droplet

    • Let’s say I’ve connected via SSH to NewServer and I want the data in /var/www from OldServer moved over. I’d do this on NewServer:

      cd /var && rsync -avz root@OldServer:/var/www .

      It’s going to be relative to your needs, so it’s hard to give exact steps.

  • What application(s) will be serving the SSL certificate? Each will have separate steps.
