How do I acces my mySQL on ubutnu 14.04 LAMP

March 17, 2015 1.2k views

I created a Ubuntu 14.04 LAMP server. Followed the getting started guide for securing my server. Then I logged in and ran this command:

I ran through that and got rid our root login etc.

I then tried to login with:

mysql -u root -p

that didn't work, i guess I denied root user access to the sql in the last thing so I tried again with mike instead of root and also didn't work.

  • When running mysql_secure_installation , the first thing it asks is if you want to change the MySql root password. Did you? Are you connecting to MySql on the server are attempting to do so remotely? One of the prompts is to disable remote access for the root users.
