I cannot login winSCP without my own username

February 16, 2015 1.2k views

I have closed the root login and follow the tutorial in WinSCP document<How do I change user after login (e.g. su root)? :: WinSCP>.

But the WinSCP told me "cannot initailize the SFTP protocol ", then I tried to use SCP to login however it told me the bash was not compatible with the program.

How can I solve it?

  • What default shell is assigned to your new user account in /etc/passwd? If WinSCP is expecting bash but your user is set to use /bin/sh or another shell by default this could be the source of this problem.
