I just reset my password for my droplet and now it won't work and my website is offline.

All I did was send a new password to my email. My website has not come back online since. I turned the server off and on, I reissued a new password again while it was off and nothing works.

Hello, @rubyshoes

Have you checked your email address? Sometimes it might need some extra time for the email to be delivered, also make sure to check your SPAM/Junk folders as well.

I will recommend you to check these two articles:

If you’re still unable to access your droplet feel free to get in touch with our amazing support team. They will be more than happy to assist you as well!

Hope that this helps!

  • Thank you for your reply. Access to my droplet is not the problem. I am able to generate a password however generating a password took my site offline and never worked after that. A google search about this topic shows me over the years this has happened to some people but sadly no solution noted.

    • Hello there,

If you’re able to access the droplet can you please verify that all services are running fine? You can check if the web server (Apache/Nginx) and the database engine (MySQl/MariaDB,PostgreSQl) are up and running.

When you try to load your site do you receive any error messages?

If you can share more information about the server configuration I can give you more detailed instructions.

Hi @rubyshoes,

Hitting the reset password button for your droplet will send out a message to our e-mail account providing you with a new ROOT password.

If you haven’t received the message instantly, try to check your SPAM or Junk folder. Additionally, you might need to wait a couple of minutes to receive the message.

Once you receive it, you’ll need to use your Droplet’s Console and type in the password there if you haven’t allowed PasswordAuthentication on your droplet already.

Here is the DigitalOcean documentation with some screenshots of the buttons:

  • The issue doesn’t have anything to do with the password which I did receive in a timely fashion.

Resetting the password caused my droplet to stop functioning. Pinging the site shows the site not working. It simply took the site offline.

    • Okay, so at least you have access to the droplet through the web console. That’s a plus.

My guess would be your network service is down. Enter your droplet via the console and try to do :

      service network restart

      See if that helps.
