Question

Is my droplet searchable by the public?

Posted August 20, 2014 1.4k views

I just created a CentOS 7 (x64) droplet and I know that I can access it from anywhere as long as I have the IP address.

What I am curious about is… since this IP address is not associated with a Domain Name, is it still searchable by the public?

Depends on what you mean by searchable. Google will index a site that doesn’t have a domain name, but it will not do well in rankings at all.

If you want to stop your site from being index by search engines, you can create a file named robots.txt in the web root containing:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /
