Joomla memcached (not memcache) configuration

Any Joomla experts out there?

I would like to enable memcached for Joomla 3.3.6. I have memcached installed and working.

I have read that this gets added to the Joomla configuration:

    public $cachetime = '30';
    public $cache_handler = 'memcached';
    public $memcached_server_host = '127.0.0.1';
    public $memcached_server_port = '11211';
    public $memcached_persist = '1';
    public $memcached_compress = '1';
    public $session_handler = 'memcached';
    public $session_memcached_server_host = '127.0.0.1';
    public $session_memcached_server_port = '11211';

and then I read elsewhere that this is what you use:

public $caching = '1';
public $cache_handler = 'memcache';
public $memcache_server_host = 'localhost';
public $memcache_server_port = '11211';

However, the first seems like it is correct., but I want to be sure.

Specifically: the back-end of this Joomla install is used to access a fairly large database, while the front-end is not as intensive. Thus my desire for memchached over memcache

...at least as far as I understand things.
