Question

Resize managed Kubernetes nodes/vertical cluster scaling?

Greetings,

I’ve resized DOKS provisioned nodes with the UI, which is working, but will not survive a cluster upgrade, obviously. When creating a new cluster I can select a node size, but I haven’t found a way to change this setting afterwards. Is this possible or will it be in the future?

Thanks and kind regards,

Lukas Wolf

Hi,

I think that you can do that by following the steps from the documentation here on how to edit Nodes and Node Pools for an Existing Cluster:

https://www.digitalocean.com/docs/kubernetes/quickstart/#edit-nodes-and-node-pools-for-an-existing-cluster

Thanks to both ServerEnthusiast and tobiasbergkvist!

It’s been a good while since I had the problem and I’ve also used the workaround by creating a new pool and destroying the old one.

A node pool is a set of nodes that all share the same configuration. If you want nodes with a new type of configuration (like with more RAM) - you can create a new node pool.

There doesn’t seem to be a way of changing the configuration of a node pool once created - so you will have to create a new one, and then destroy the old one.
