Sites stopped working after PHP update - debian 7

January 29, 2015 858 views

Hi there,

I'm kind of new(ish) to this so please go easy. I've recently updated PHP as my perch website was telling me my php version was slightly out of date. So I've upgraded from 5.4 to 5.5.

The problem is now my sites don't display. As I'm new to this, what the procedure to get the sites working with a new version of php. Or does this in fact mean the there is a problem with php, and thats why the sites are not working?

If i run php --version I get: PHP 5.5.20-1~dotdeb.1 (cli)

  • a few more details:

    when you say "your site does not display" do you mean you just get a blank white screen?

    Can you turn on error reporting by going to /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini and finding this line:

    display_errors = Off

    and change that to:

    display_errors = On

    You will need to restart your webserver after that...this should give you some output on your screen to figure out what the problem is
