Hi all! I've been running this server for a while as my primary webserver and everything has been great except I cannot get the sites to send email at all.

I've followed some of the tutorials offered by the community to establish outbound email service for a web server with no luck. I think I may have misconfigured something along the way by either negligence or by conflicting configuration guides and I don't know how to correct it.

I'd like to first identify what I've installed as far as mail services are concerned, remove them (safely) and start over with perhaps a guide that someone can recommend to me.

If there is any other information you need from me, please ask!

  • Why do you want to start over? Software doesn't get stale and expire, it's better to actually learn what's going on and fix it.

Right now all we're seeing is "This doesn't work". What does that mean? Do you get an error message?

  • Thanks for the timely response.

    I followed this guide: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-install-and-configure-postfix-as-a-send-only-smtp-server-on-ubuntu-14-04

When I attempt to test the configuration and function by sending the command:

echo "This is the body of the email" | mail -s "This is the subject line" user@gmail.com

    I get the following output:

root@WEB02:~# echo "This is the body of the email" | mail -s "This is the subject line" joecasanova@gmail.com
/etc/mail/submit.cf: line 1: fileclass: cannot open 'ATURE(use_ct_file)###': No such file or directory
    No local mailer defined
QueueDirectory (Q) option must be set
Can't send mail: sendmail process failed with error code 78
Postfix is an MTA (Mail Transfer Agent), an application used to send and receive email. In this tutorial, we will install and configure Postfix so that it can be used to send emails by local applications only.
