As of 1 July 2011, the Government of Norway introduced Norway’s Value Added Tax rules which applies to all foreign suppliers of electronic services on their B2C (business to consumer) sales to Norway. Services provided by DigitalOcean are subject to VAT and are applicable to persons not registered for the VAT at the standard rate of 25%.
Starting on 1 May 2019, DigitalOcean will begin charging this VAT for users with a tax location in Norway. Users can expect to see these charges on 1 June 2019 invoices for the May billing period.
The change doesn’t affect business-to-business sales. In these cases, the reverse charge mechanism will be in effect.
Tax location is determined by the origin of the last credit card added. This is the location returned by DigitalOcean’s credit card processor for the given card (not the user entered location).
For PayPal users, tax location is determined by the location returned by PayPal for the last payment.
You can change your tax location by adding a payment card with a different location origin or by making a PayPal payment with an updated location.
