How does DigitalOcean pricing compare?

DigitalOcean Kubernetes provides master server components for free. This includes compute and storage
infrastructure and management for processes like etcd, kube-apiserver, kube-controller-manager, kube-scheduler,
cloud-controller-manager, and other services for Kubernetes cluster management.
Customers are billed for the underlying resources used by their Kubernetes worker nodes, which could include
Droplets, Block Storage, and
Load Balancers. A Kubernetes cluster can be deployed for as little as $30 per month.
Only public outgoing transfers are considered for bandwidth billing. Transfer limits are calculated by pooling the
transfer from all droplets on the account. Overages above pooled transfer will be charged at a rate of $0.01/GB.
Databases
Combine the power of our core VM platform with a fully managed PostgreSQL database engine to give your application the performance it needs—without the operational demands that come with building and running your own database server. Learn more

Worry-free setup & maintenance
Easily launch your database with the push of a button while we handle your maintenance operations and updates.
Free daily backups with point-in-time recovery
Your data is critical, so we ensure that it is backed up every day. Restore data to any point within the previous seven days.
Standby nodes with automated failovers
If a failure occurs, Managed Databases will automatically switch data handling to a standby node.
End-to-end security
Your data is encrypted at rest and in transit. Use a firewall to only allow connections from IP addresses you specify.
Database engines
We currently offer PostgreSQL, with Redis & MySQL planned for later in 2019.
Bandwidth
Ingress bandwidth is always free. Egress bandwidth fees will be waived in 2019, and will be assessed at 0.01/GB per month thereafter.
Storage
Simple and scalable S3-compatible object storage with a built-in content delivery network (CDN) to store, serve, backup, and archive any amount of web content, images, media, and static files for your web apps. Learn more
SSD Disk | Outbound transfer (w/CDN) | Additional GB stored | Additional GB transferred (w/CDN) | Price/mo | |

Attach additional SSD-based Block Storage volumes to your Droplet to suit your database, file storage, application, service, mobile, and backup needs. Pricing starts at $0.10/GB per month. Learn more
BackupsThe pricing for backups is 20% of the cost of your virtual machine. So, for example, if you want to enable backups for a $5 per month Droplet, the cost of the backup will be $1 per month.
Snapshots
Snapshots are charged at a rate of $0.05/GB per month. Pricing is based on the size of the snapshot, not the size of the filesystem being saved.
There is no additional charge for making a snapshot available in multiple regions.
Tools
Automatically distribute incoming traffic across your Droplets, enabling you to build more reliable, high-performance applications by creating redundancy. Load Balancers are billed hourly at $0.015 with no additional bandwidth charges. Available in all data center regions. Learn more
Floating IPsFloating IPs are free to use as long as they are attached to a Droplet. Due to limited IPv4 availability, we charge $0.006 per hour for floating IPs that have been reserved but not assigned to a Droplet. Learn more
Included Services
We work hard to make sure every DigitalOcean customer has what they need to be successful. No matter what products you’re using or how much you’re spending, we stand by our promise to provide world-class service and support.

99.99% uptime SLA
If we fail to deliver on our 99.99% uptime SLA, we'll credit you for the amount of time that service was unavailable.

- What forms of payment do you accept?
-
We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, and PayPal. For additional payment options, including wire transfer, purchase orders, and ACH, please contact us.
- How does hourly pricing work?
-
All Droplets are billed hourly up to a monthly cap of 672 hours (the number of hours in 4 weeks).
If you use your server for fewer than 672 hours during the month, you will be billed for each hour that you used it. If you use your server for more than 672 hours that month, you will be billed at the monthly cost.
We calculate Droplet pricing this way so that consistent month-to-month usage results in a consistent invoice.
- Will taxes be included in my monthly invoice?
-
We’re required by law to collect taxes in some countries. You can visit our tax information documentation for details.
- Am I charged when I enter my credit card?
-
No—when you enter a card we only verify the card. Your card is only charged at the end of the billing cycle.
- How do you calculate costs in the pricing calculator?
-
Our pricing calculator uses 744 hours (the amount used on DO invoices) to calculate the monthly cost for each provider. On-demand prices are shown.
Prices are drawn from the following datacenters:
- DigitalOcean: Prices consistent throughout all datacenters
- GCP: US East (Iowa)
- AWS: US East (Ohio)
- Azure: US East (no state specified)

The pricing calculator does not account for all available discounts. The pricing calculator does not include backups or snapshots, which incur an additional fee. DigitalOcean acknowledges that there is some variability and complexity in other providers’ pricing. If you wish to better understand the pricing for one of the providers included in our pricing calculator, we recommend you use the pricing calculators/lists from those providers.
