How to Delete Load Balancers from Kubernetes Clusters

DigitalOcean Kubernetes (DOKS) is a managed Kubernetes service that lets you deploy Kubernetes clusters without the complexities of handling the control plane and containerized infrastructure. Clusters are compatible with standard Kubernetes toolchains and integrate natively with DigitalOcean Load Balancers and block storage volumes.

To delete a cluster's load balancer with kubectl, use the delete service command:

kubectl -kubeconfig=[full path to cluster config file] delete service [NAME]

When this command is successful, it both removes the load balancer from the cluster and deletes it from your account.

When you delete a cluster with a load balancer service from the control panel, the load balancer is not automatically deleted. In this case, in the Networking section of the control panel, select Load Balancers. Open the load balancer's More menu, select Edit settings, click Destroy, and confirm.

Note that while you can currently delete block storage volumes and load balancers from the control panel, we recommend that you use kubectl to manage all cluster-related resources.
