Trademark Usage Guidelines

Last Updated on April 9, 2026

These DigitalOcean Trademark Usage Guidelines (“Guidelines”) apply to DigitalOcean’s licensees, authorized resellers, developers, customers, and other parties who wish to use DigitalOcean Trademarks and are authorized to use them by DigitalOcean. DigitalOcean Trademarks include the DigitalOcean name and our product and service names, logos, taglines, and other symbols, words, and phrases that identify DigitalOcean and our offerings, now in existence or in the future (“Marks”). DigitalOcean monitors unauthorized use of its Marks and reserves the right to take legal action to enforce its rights in and to its Marks.

The DigitalOcean brand is recognized and trusted by our customers and the public. DigitalOcean Marks are essential elements of our brand and we have invested significant resources to protect them. We require you follow these Guidelines to help maintain the goodwill and trust connected to our Marks. Any use of DigitalOcean Marks outside of these Guidelines or our written instructions otherwise requires our express written permission.

Use the following Do’s and Don’ts as a guide for proper use of our Marks.

Use DigitalOcean Marks in Plain Text

Do

  • Use DigitalOcean Marks in plain text that matches surrounding text when referring to DigitalOcean or our offerings.

Don’t

  • Don’t use DigitalOcean’s logos or designs without our express written permission or except as authorized under these Guidelines.
  • Don’t use DigitalOcean Marks as the most noticeable or most pronounced aspect in any materials. Your branding must always be more prominent than any DigitalOcean Marks.
  • Don’t stylize DigitalOcean Marks or create your own logos or designs for them.
  • Don’t use DigitalOcean logos or badges in a manner that fails to meet the visual standards (color, spacing, minimum size) as established by DigitalOcean or as we may instruct otherwise.

Use DigitalOcean Marks as Adjectives

Do

  • Use DigitalOcean Marks as adjectives in connection with a corresponding generic or descriptive term. Use a generic or descriptive term with each DigitalOcean Mark the first time you use the Mark, and as often as possible after that.

Don’t

  • Don’t use DigitalOcean Marks as nouns,* verbs, or in the possessive or plural form.

When you use “DigitalOcean” as a substitute for DigitalOcean LLC, you’re using it as a trade name. Unlike trademarks, trade names are nouns and may be used in the possessive form.

Examples:

Do: DigitalOcean product and services DigitalOcean 1-Click Apps

Don’t: DigitalOcean’s features

Use DigitalOcean Marks Correctly and Without Changes

Do

  • Use DigitalOcean Marks as they are, with correct spelling and capitalization.

Don’t

  • Don’t abbreviate, translate, misspell, alter, or otherwise modify DigitalOcean Marks.
  • Don’t combine DigitalOcean Marks with your or any other party’s name or trademark.

Examples:

Don’t: DO App Platform Digital Ocean CompanyX DigitalOcean

Maintain Accuracy and Avoid Confusion

Do

  • Always be truthful and accurate when referring to DigitalOcean and/or our offerings.
  • Distinguish DigitalOcean Marks from your product or service name by using smaller type, a different font, and/or a different color whenever used apart from body copy. Your own branding should always be more prominent than any DigitalOcean Mark.
  • Clearly disclaim any affiliation, endorsement, or sponsorship by DigitalOcean in your marketing materials, for example, by using a phrase like, “This product is not affiliated with or endorsed by DigitalOcean, LLC.”
  • When referencing your product’s connection to DigitalOcean, use clear relational phrases such as “built on DigitalOcean,” “for use with DigitalOcean,” or “runs on DigitalOcean infrastructure.”

Don’t

  • Don’t use DigitalOcean Marks as your own product or service name or trade name.
  • Don’t position any DigitalOcean Mark too close to your name or trademark in a way that creates a single, combined, or composite mark…
  • Don’t use DigitalOcean Marks in any way that is confusing or that could mislead others into believing you or your products or services are provided, sponsored, endorsed, or approved by or affiliated with DigitalOcean.
  • Don’t use any name or trademark that is confusingly similar to a DigitalOcean Mark.
  • Don’t copy or mimic DigitalOcean’s visual elements, including trade dress, color schemes, type style, logos, or the layout/style of our website or marketing materials
  • Don’t use DigitalOcean Marks on product packaging or any physical merchandise or swag items, such as t-shirts, mugs, or stickers, unless you have our express written permission.
  • Don’t use DigitalOcean Marks in any way that is disparaging, defamatory, offensive, fraudulent, or in any other way that violates our Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Don’t use DigitalOcean Marks as paid search advertising keywords, metadata, or in app store descriptions in a way that suggests endorsement or official affiliation.

Examples:

Do: MySoftware for use with DigitalOcean

Don’t MyDigitalOcean App DO

Do

  • Display the following rights notice whenever using DigitalOcean Marks in connection with your own products or services: DigitalOcean and all related logos are trademarks of DigitalOcean, LLC or its affiliates.
