Higgsfield AI Evaluated 15+ Other Clouds, Then Sent Its Enterprise Traffic to DigitalOcean for Higher Uptime

"A lot of larger clouds at some point start to only prioritize really large customers and often don’t pay attention to smaller companies. DigitalOcean is always very responsive."

— Alex Mashrabov, CEO and Co-Founder, Higgsfield AI

Video production used to require serious budgets, professional crews, and weeks of post-production. Higgsfield AI is changing that by putting high-quality AI video creation in the hands of social media marketers, content creators, and brands.

In 18 months, Higgsfield AI grew from a sub-$100M run rate to a $1 billion annualized revenue run rate. That kind of growth puts pressure on every part of the business, especially infrastructure vendors who must easily provide computing power to quickly scale and easily integrate new hardware into an existing stack.

“Our goal is to empower tens of millions of social media marketers to promote and sell their products more efficiently through video AI,” says Alex Mashrabov, CEO and Co-Founder of Higgsfield AI. “A lot of creators were extremely limited with the type of stories they could tell because of budget constraints. Now these constraints almost go away with video AI, which leads to further democratization.”

He knew accomplishing this needed the right AI cloud provider to support Higgsfield AI’s operations and wanted a company that went beyond simple hardware provisioning. The goal was to find a true technology partner that could optimize workloads, proactively manage infrastructure, and respond to issues when they arise. Mashrabov built his first cloud app on DigitalOcean in 2014 and decided it might be time to re-evaluate.

Talking with DigitalOcean, Marsharov noticed the team’s initial responsiveness, support, and eagerness to help. This provided an auspicious start for Higgsfield AI and DigitalOcean’s partnership, which has further solidified through reliable, high-availability infrastructure and cost-effective services.

Reliability at the foundation

Running AI video generation for millions of concurrent users is computationally intensive and unforgiving. Every request triggers a rendering pipeline that must complete reliably and deliver a quality that justifies even the lowest subscription tier. A broken experience, regardless of the price, is still a broken experience.

Before DigitalOcean, Higgsfield considered over 15 neoclouds. Most offered ample hardware availability on paper, but degraded under real production workloads. Node instability and network failures frequently interrupted rendering pipelines, making planning almost impossible. At times, the team couldn’t utilize up to 20% of their contracted GPU time, causing production issues and wasted money.

Where other providers had forced the team to absorb unpredictable availability, DigitalOcean delivered the execution stability Higgsfield AI’s pipelines required.

“At some point, I heard that DigitalOcean was actively buying more GPUs and building data centers with NVIDIA chips, so we started the evaluation process," Mashrabov says.

After evaluation and deployment, the company routes its enterprise customers’ workloads specifically through DigitalOcean to meet higher uptime SLAs—a reflection of where it places its highest confidence.

“The internal logic behind the scenes is quite complicated. We basically route enterprise customers’ requests to DigitalOcean to guarantee higher uptime and better reliability,” Mashrabov explains.

Unit economics that protect accessible pricing

Keeping a $15/month subscription viable at 32 million users requires relentless attention to compute costs. DigitalOcean’s infrastructure, combined with the flexibility to scale without long-term contract commitments, gives the team the cost predictability it needs to keep pricing accessible.

“Unit economics is critical because we want to make sure we provide affordable pricing plans for our customers. We want to make sure that their first touch with video AI goes well, and that people can expect to get a good video when they pay $15 a month,” Mashrabov says.

Through ongoing work with DigitalOcean, he’s noticed internal initiatives designed to advance Higgsfield’s technology and help keep it ahead of the industry curve (while remaining cost-effective for customers).

“It feels like a great initiative when DigitalOcean really wants to consolidate both kinds of serverless inference: the software stacks and the GPUs themselves. I think no one has executed this strategy yet. And we are looking to DigitalOcean to build the best-in-class solution," he says.

Future of Higgsfield and DigitalOcean

As Higgsfield continues to scale their business for day-to-day users, they’ve also been working with animators, producers, and film studios to test the platform’s capabilities (and showcase the final content to audiences).

Several of these short films include an absurdist sci-fi story, “Hell Grind,” and a Central Asian folklore tale, “Kök Börü.” This content is designed to highlight the technical capabilities of Higgsfield AI’s animation and inform studios how they can use the software to accelerate and push the elements of film production, in tandem with human elements, instead of fully replacing them.

As the company continually expands and experiments with more technical video and visual styles, Mashrabov knows that using DigitalOcean helps ensure stability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness. And it’s all backed by a responsive technical support team.

“A lot of larger clouds at some point start to prioritize really large customers and may not pay attention to smaller companies. We are really excited that DigitalOcean is always very responsive—and this was true even before we became a customer,” he says.
