LawVo is a Canadian legal tech startup co-founded by Hovsep Seraydarian (CTO) and his co-founders, Fernand Vartanian and Lena Vartanian, both practicing lawyers. The company was created with a mission to increase access to justice by making legal services more affordable and accessible for consumers and business owners.

Today LawVo is a subscription-based platform offering unlimited legal advice, AI-enabled legal tools, and on-demand access to lawyers across Canada. By combining AI, proprietary legal data, and real lawyers, LawVo has built what Seraydarian describes as a legal services platform, which is a “a one-stop shop where every legal need is available in one place.”

Why DigitalOcean

When evaluating cloud providers, data residency was a top priority. “When we were looking at which platforms have local servers in Toronto, we compared AWS, Azure, DigitalOcean, and others, and we found that DigitalOcean has Toronto-based cloud infrastructure. That gave us trust that our data is going to stay in Canada.”

Today, LawVo uses a wide range of DigitalOcean products, including: Gradient™ AI Agentic Cloud for AI agents, GPU Droplets, and Knowledge Bases (200+ and growing); Droplets for workloads; Spaces and volume block storage for more than 700–800 GB of legal data; PostgreSQL and PHP databases; backups and snapshots; and auto-scaling tools to handle traffic surges during client onboarding. They also rely on Docker to streamline deployment.

The scale of their AI adoption is significant. “We got capped at 144 agents, which we set up over two weeks,” Seraydarian said. “But legal is such a wide topic, and as we expand into the U.S., we’ll need agents for all 50 states. It’s going to get to the thousands.”

Results & Benefits

DigitalOcean’s ease of use and speed of deployment have been critical. “From start to production, the time is very short. If you know what you’re doing, you can get things done pretty fast,” said Seraydarian. “Gradient AI Platform has helped us ship features and products on the fly much quicker than with other platforms.”

Documentation also made onboarding seamless. “We set everything up without even talking to anyone from the DigitalOcean team. The documentation was great.”

LawVo is working toward developing its own legal LLM (large language model), with plans to leverage DigitalOcean’s GPU Droplets for training. The team is also collaborating with the Gradient AI Platform product team to add new features, like the new file upload functionality.

For Seraydarian, DigitalOcean has proven to be the right long-term partner. “DigitalOcean is very progressive in how they look at the future, and that matches how we build products. Everything has been high quality so far, and we’re definitely staying with DigitalOcean for the long run.”
