Accidentally changed ownership of all droplet folders

Hello, by mistake I changed the ownership of almost ALL folders of the droplet, including /root therefore I cannot login via ssh as root anymore. It asks me the password but I created root account only with ssh key access. Right now I can only access as the sudo user to which I gave ownership, but I’m not able to switch back with chown. What can I do to save the situation?

Hi there @ilariaroglieri,

I believe that @Yannek has a really good suggestion. One thing that I would personally add is if you have a recent backup is to just restore to that backup, that way you will know that there will not be any unexpected problems down the line.

Regards, Bobby

Do you have any snapshot done for that droplet ? You could restore ownership comparing your defective droplet to that one restored from the snapshot. It would demand writing a script to automatize the process.
