Any other way to open a vpn?

October 1, 2014 880 views

I opened a vpn yesterday and seems working well, the only problem is that vpn seems to be blocked by our school so I cannot connect to my vpn using the school network while other network other than this works properly. However, programs like proxpn can work even with the blocked network. Is there any better ways other than pptp to setup vpn with out any restrict? If so, can I have some detailed steps?

  • Hi,
Would like to see what procedure you used to create your VPN.
I'm trying to create PPTP, but not luck.
I have already installed OpenVPN, it works well but only 2 users can use concurrently. I want more user can connect to my VPN.

Most firewalls block things like that by looking at the port, so I suggest configuring OpenVPN to listen on a common port such as 443 (HTTPS) or 53 (DNS) and trying to connect to it then.

Install OpenVPN on your server, by using a tutorial like this one:

And then install the OpenVPN client on your phone and laptop to connect to it.

OpenVPN Access Server is a "full featured SSL VPN software solution that integrates OpenVPN server capabilities, enterprise management capabilities, simplified OpenVPN Connect UI, and OpenVPN Client software packages that accommodate Windows, MAC, and Linux OS environments." Install OpenVPN Access Server on your Ubuntu 12.04 VPS.
