I use some software which is bind to a MAC address - can I specify MAC for a new server and be sure it does not change?

Hey friend,

For our system the MAC address will be created on our side and assigned at that time. It won’t change, but you wouldn’t be able to set your own.

  • hi jarland,

what about MAC for the private network? This one will not be seen by any other computers outside…

    • You could create an interface with your own private network and specify a MAC, but it wouldn’t be reachable outside of the droplet. Perhaps a VPN tunneled over our private network or even public network could allow two droplets to communicate over that private interface that you had created.

      • Sounds like what I need! As said, I need this just for some software which is bind to a MAC address.

But this is to be a “real” network interface, not virtual. I.e. it should be created at DO console, not from inside of the VM. Do you know how to do this?

        • The only way to emulate a hardware interface outside of the VM would be to define it in the QEMU XML data, which would be outside of your control and not a function that we’re prepared to offer.

You can optionally set up a SSH key for the root user of your new Droplet. In case you’ve already set up a SSH key in the Control Panel, just select it in the last step before you create the Droplet. Otherwise click Add SSH key and follow the instructions to set up the SSH key-based root login for the Droplet
