Can't connect using SSH Key to my existing droplet from a different computer

Posted on April 16, 2025

Hi,

I want to connect to my droplet from my work computer. I created a new public key using PuTTY, and saved my private key on my desktop.

I tried to both copy the public key on my account interface here:

And log in with FileZilla using root as user and adding my private key:

But it didn’t work.

I also tried to add my new public key in the ~/.ssh/authorized_keys folder as a new line under my other public key. But again it didn’t work.

I’m sure I’m doing something wrong, but can’t guess what it is.

Thanks :)

Heya,

If you try and use a terminal and one of the keys are you able to SSH?

Also, make sure your firewall is allowing port 22 to be accessed or if you want just whitelist your IP.

Heya, @douxdoux

Can you confirm that the key is added to the authorized_keys file and the file has the proper permissions and ownership?

You can also share any errors during the ssh connection attempt so we can find the culprit of the issue.
