You definitely do not need a control panel in order to host any kind of app/site. We have plenty of articles on Wordpress:

Varnish is an HTTP accelerator and a useful tool for speeding up a server, especially during a times when there is high traffic to a site. It works by redirecting visitors to static pages whenever possible and only drawing on the server itself if there is a need for an active process. This tutorial covers installing wordpress on a LEMP stack (with nginx instead of apache), and then installing varnish.
Webuzo will allow you to install Wordpress by just a click from it's Enduser Panel.

Further you can update / backup / restore your installation by just a click from the Webuzo Enduser Panel. :)
You can setup wordpress without any control panel but it is generally easier to setup a control panel and use it to manage domain setup.
If you want you can use free control panel like virtualmin or you can also use cPanel on your DigitalOcean droplet.

thank you

If you are not that savvy like me using commands on unix, then consider installing webuzo. This is similar to cPanel and is is extremely easy to use (if you are familiar with cPanel). You may also see, they have pretty cool web hosting control panel.

try Webuzo … it is the closest thing to the Holy Grail of control panels (except that they don’t offer a reseller option):
