Does Digital Ocean Spaces offer Object Lock features?

Posted on July 21, 2022

I’m wondering if digital ocean spaces offer Object Lock feature. Can someone please confirm the same? I tried looking for the same on the Spaces landing page and documentation, but I couldn’t find the info. Someone in G2 reviews has mentioned “Some features, such as object policies and bucket replication, aren’t available” can someone confirm what they refer to object policies here? Thanks.

Hi there,

As of the time being Object Lock is not supported.

A complete list of the AWS S3 Compatibility features and their status can be found here:

On another note, the best thing to do to get your voice heard regarding this would be to head over to our Product Ideas board and post a new idea, including as much information as possible for what you’d like to see implemented.

Hope that helps!

I am looking for the same function, S3 Lock.

This function is very important if you need protection for accidental deletation of purpose deletetion, that what its call Governance Mode in S3

S3 Object Lock’s Governance Mode allows you to protect objects from accidental deletion or modification by most users, but it allows users with specific permissions (like s3:BypassGovernanceRetention) to override these protections. This mode is useful for scenarios where you want to experiment with object locking or need a way for administrators to manage retention settings while still preventing accidental changes by regular users.
