Frequently Asked Billing Questions Answered

How do I choose between monthly and hourly billing?

There is no difference between monthly and hourly billing. All droplets are billed hourly, up until a monthly cap. We have estimated that each month has about 720 hours (30 days). If you use your server for less than 720 during the month, you will be billed for each hour that you used it. If you use your server for more than 720 hours that month, you will be billed at the monthly cost, which is no greater than 720 hours.

Do you offer refunds?

No, we do not offer refunds. If there are extenuating circumstances, please open up a ticket with us.

I submitted a paypal payment. Why hasn't my balance been updated?

Balances are not updated in real time. They are updated about once a day. Once you submit your paypal payment it gets processed and added to our system. You should see the updated balance the next day.

Am I charged when I enter a credit card?

No— when you enter a card, we only run an authorization charge. Your card is charged at the end of the billing cycle.

It's halfway through the month, and I have received a notice that my balance is low. I pay through paypal. What is the issue?

Unlike credit card users, we need paypal users to prepay for their servers. Because of this, if you exhaust your balance before the end of the billing cycle, we will send you an email, asking you to pay for the continued use of your servers.

Do you guys provide invoice with GSM/VAT number, since we are a company located in Europe and we need invoices to have GSM/VAT to be acceptable by our accounts?

Hi Joao,

Please open up a support ticket so we can discuss this further.

I need this answered aswell.

Any news on this ? Since I can’t find an answer here.

You can add your VAT number in the Company Name field in the settings page.

So the end point is that I won’t be charged more than the monthly cap, right?
E.g. I create a 512MB RAM Droplet. I won’t be charged more than $5/month?

I am quite sure that most of the users prefer a no-brainer charging, in other words: They give their payment data (paypal would be nice, but I read here that it does not work), and Digital Ocean is picking a fixed amount (user can for instance define 20 USD, 50 USD, 100 USD) from the bank account / paypal account / payment account.

I really hope that this automation will be implemented. I, for example, do not have a credit card for my business account, thus am forced to transfer credit by paypal manually.
