Github student promo code not working

October 31, 2014 8.2k views

Hello,

Just wanted to let you guys know there is a problem redeeming the student developer coupon offered by Github for digitalocean credit. I get the error "Sorry, this promo is not available for your account at this time" I'm thinking this is because I've already redeemed a coupon ($10) a few weeks ago.

Is this planning on being fixed? At this point my best option is to create a new account.

Thank you

I was just reading their documentation: "Keep in mind that we only allow one promo code per account, so if you’ve redeemed one in the past you may not add another. To see your promo code history please visit your billing page." That's ridiculous. At least allow people to redeem the difference of the coupon and previous credit. So if I've already redeemed $10, I should be able to redeem $90. I'll file a ticket anyway

  • If you ask nicely they may be able to get you the credit difference but it's not set in stone. So all the best. :)

  • To clarify for anyone that got here from Google like I did, the $100 Github student codes only work if you make a new account. This means that you can't signup with a $10 promo link, it has to be a "vanilla" account. Not sure why they wouldn't tell us this, "for new users" is pretty vague.

There are rules against creating multiple accounts. I think it's better to open a ticket and try communicating with an actual Customer Service agent than violating the rules.

When I redeemed my $100 credit from the GitHub Student Pack, I had already redeemed a promotional code before. On the page that you got your code from, there should also be a link that takes you straight to the page that you can redeem your promotional code on.

Hi,

You can't create multiple account and currently Github offering Student repository offer. Please check github coupons site for more details on that.

Hope that would help you out.
