How does DigitalOcean keep my domain name secure?

I’ve recently purchased a domain name from GoDaddy for a Wordpress site and to use it with DigitalOcean I changed the nameservers from GoDaddy to DO. However during this change there was no point at which I had to link my GoDaddy and DO accounts thus from my limited understanding it seems to be totally possible for a malicious actor on DO to use my domain name by adding it to one of their projects. However this just seems like too simple of an exploit to be possible so can anyone tell me what am I missing?

Hey @hadikhan31415 ,

It would not be possible for a malicious actor to steal your domain because in order to link your domain to DO, you have to change the name servers from your GoDaddy control panel. After that, you have to link your domain to your server, therefore you become the ‘zonemaster’. The domain is yours to keep and nobody else can register an A record of your domain to their server.

This is kind of ‘first come, first serve’, I suppose, so you are pretty safe if you already have your domain linked to your droplet.

I hope this helps and feel free to keep the conversation going!

Best regards,
