How does referral program work?

September 13, 2014 3.2k views

Hi everyone,

I don't fully understand how referral program works.
"Anyone you refer to DigitalOcean that signs up using your unique referral link will receive $10" - does it mean that this money will be taken from my account? And if so, will it happen just after his registration or payment method confirmation, or will I actually be paid just $15 after he is billed $25? In the first case I would lose money, if I refer people who won't total 25$ in billings, right?

Thanks!

Hi!

"It's simple! Anyone you refer to DigitalOcean that signs up using your unique referral link will receive $10 in hosting credit immediately after unlocking their account by adding a valid payment method. In return for helping us spread the word, we’ll give you $25 for each friend that signs up, once they are billed $25 as a DO customer."

In other words:

  1. You send a referral link to your friend
  2. He signs up and receives 10$ credit from DigitalOcean (like with a promo code, not from your wallet)
  3. (optional) He reaches 25$ in billings => You get 25$
  • that optional benefit is the main reason to refer !!

lame rule since first you have to wait almost 5 months before that user u referred reaches USD 25 mark, secondly, money u get can only be used in hosting payment..

either make the money available as hard cash, in paypal or bank acc or remove that waiting period..

  • Not every DO customer has the smallest plan. Not every customer is paying on a monthly basis - you can prepaid some credit for longer period (like I did).

  • Most of the referral pays when conversion happens.. Here they dont pay, rather offer benefit, that too not just with conversion but with a longer usage !!!

Blocking a space of ads for their referral badge (self created by the way) instead of a Adsense or any other ads / referral doesn't feel worthy !!
