before i start i just want to say that i’m fully aware FTP is not secure and not recommended but i’m looking for speed at this point not security.
So my server is setup with SSH access running ubuntu 16.10. i can sftp into the server just fine but i only seem to get a transfer rate of 1.5MBit. I have some large files i want to move over that require no security at all. They are taking for ever to move across the internet to my droplet so i wanted to try just a plain FTP connection. I setup vsftpd on the droplet to listen on port 21 and even enabled anonymous uploads and downloads because at this point i just need it to work.
when i try to connect with filezilla, winscp, or anything else via FTP it states connection refused by server.
I’ve disabled ufw already so thats not it and i verified the ports are all correct. Please assist.
When i setup the SSH to the server did i unknowingly restrict something?

I don’t recommend the article above because it doesn’t work. I’ve done it 4 times, destroyed and re-created droplets. It just flat out doesn’t work. Followed the steps 4 times. The instructions don’t work. Try to find solutions somewhere else because Digital Ocean’s support and community is very lacking.
