How to enable port 465 for SMTPS?

The smtp(s) ports 25, 465, and 587 have been opened in the firewall.

If I telnet on ports 25 or 587 the 220 status is returned. However I get no response on port 465 so I assume that port is blocked or Postfix is not listening on that port ( does include smtps settings although not seem ‘465’ specifically listed).

Hi. I use Debian Linux. In the is commented block “smtps…”. Uncomment it and reload postfix service. It looks like:

#smtps inet n - y - - smtpd
# -o syslog_name=postfix/smtps
# -o smtpd_tls_wrappermode=yes
# -o smtpd_sasl_auth_enable=yes
# -o smtpd_reject_unlisted_recipient=no
# -o smtpd_client_restrictions=$mua_client_restrictions
# -o smtpd_helo_restrictions=$mua_helo_restrictions
# -o smtpd_sender_restrictions=$mua_sender_restrictions
# -o smtpd_recipient_restrictions=
# -o smtpd_relay_restrictions=permit_sasl_authenticated,reject
# -o milter_macro_daemon_name=ORIGINATING

Hi @cutegrayanemone-243261243130242e72596233624177705a432f4f597575322f5a537a2e,

To check if anything listens on port 465, SSH to your Droplet and type in:

  1. netstat -tulpen | grep 465

I’ll assume that since you can telnet on port 25, you are using that instead of 465. Try that, if you see port 465 in netstat and still are unable to connect, then it’s most likely blocked but I just believe your Postfix is listening port 25 rather than 465.

What is the SMTP service that you are using? And also has it been configured to listen on port 465? You can check that with:

  1. netstat -plant | grep 465

If you do not see any output, then this would indicate that your SMTP service is not listening on that port.
