We faced this situation several times and have developed a plugin ‘wp-letsencrypt-ssl’ to achieve this easily, it also installs the generated SSL directly on your cPanel using UAPI with just a click of button.

I found my answer by following this tutorial:

How To Secure Apache with Let’s Encrypt on Ubuntu 16.04

The reason I followed that ⬆︎ tutorial was b/c I used the Digital Ocean One-click installation of Wordpress which uses Apache (not Nginx) as the web server.

Another thing to consider if you don’t go with the One-click installation of Wordpress… Should I use Nginx or Apache for my Wordpress Install?

ARCHIVED: We have created a one-click Wordpress installation with permalinks enabled that uses Apache/MySQL/PHP on Ubuntu 16.04 x64.

Hello friend!

While I can appreciate the desire for a step by step guide, I’m afraid it isn’t possible for one to exist that works perfectly for everyone. There are so many unique variables that every guide will need to be adapted to your situation. My recommendation is to search Google with a formula like this:

Distro version + web server + wordpress + letsencrypt

So, for example, it could look like this:

Ubuntu 16 + apache + wordpress + letsencrypt

Kind Regards,

You may try following tutorial to install WordPress on your DO droplet,

And then enable Let’s Encrypt SSL with this one,
