How to upload a static website using Windows

Because of GoDaddy’s crazy prices and awful support I’ve decided to switch to Digital Ocean. I found cPanel a lot easier than the system you’re using, but I’m trying to wrap my head around it.

  • So far I’ve purchased a domain from and set up the custom DNS so that it directs to ns1, ns2, and ns3.

  • I created a Droplet and added my SSH-key to it.

  • I’ve downloaded and installed Nginx on my Ubuntu 16.04 server and the Nginx screen showed up on the IP connected to my droplet.

But I’m stuck here. How do I actually upload an index.html file to the server? I used Filezilla on GoDaddy but with the SSH keys now I’m completely lost. Where do I go from here?

You can use filezilla on these servers too, just use port 22 instead of 21, (21 is normal FTP, where 22 is SFTP, based on SSH). You just login with your current user.

You might need to set a password for the user trying to login if you only has added a SSH key, not sure how filezilla works with SSH keys.
