I don’t need more CPU, or more disk than 50 GB, but so many apps these days require more RAM. I’m paying $12/mo for a tiny Mastodon instance, where I host myself and three friends. Do run up against he 50 GB disk size a bit, but I store media on Spaces.
But the thing that I really run into during maintenance (upgrades, or purging old content) is RAM limits. I’ve enabled swap, which lets commands complete, but they sometimes take much longer. It’d be really nice if I could somehow get an instance with 4 GB, without doubling my costs.
TIA!

Heya, @jetforme
You can also check if moving the database to managed database is doable. This can be cheaper than upgrading the whole droplet.
On another note you can chec if you can optimize the swap usgae and also tweak the Mastodon configuration. Mastodon in particular is very RAM-heavy.
There are some steps you can perform before upgrading the droplet, however if the setup requires this an upgrade will significantly benefit the performance of your Mastodon app.

Hi there,
Totally get where you’re coming from, lots of lightweight workloads just need more RAM, not extra CPU or disk. Adding swap is a good way to have some extra buffer!
It might be worth sharing this as a feature request on the DigitalOcean Ideas board — a low-cost, RAM-optimized plan would definitely be useful for cases like yours.
