Mariadb vs MySQL -is MySQL phasing out?

Posted on September 8, 2014

I just now updated one of my servers to Mariadb 10, from the default MySQL 5.5

the update took all of 5 minutes, and gave me a few new features I was after (in particular, multiple timestamps…).

My question: is there any good reason to continue using MySQL? Mariadb seems to be very solid, and does not have the tangled licensing issues that MySQL brings to the table.

any pros out there who can shed some light on why we are still using MySQL as the default?
