I misconfigured iptables on a nginx forward proxy and inadvertently created a open http proxy available to the internet for about 3-4 hours, once I realized what I had done I immediately stopped the process and fixed iptables. I recreated my VPS as a security precaution (also wiping out the proxy logs… stupid mistake I know…) Just curious if I should be extremely worried about anything legally even though it was only available for a short amount of time

As you wiped the logs, you can’t be certain that no one abused your proxy. Though since you caught it so quickly, you shouldn’t have anything to worry about.
