When will it be possible to send out email over IPv6.

  • I have also had this problem, with both Google and FastMail incoming SMTP servers and a couple of other ones. SMTP over IPv4 to the same servers works fine.

Unfortunately, at this time there are no plans to enable SMTP for IPv6.

  • Can D.O. advise why this isn’t enabled? and by enabled i assume your blocking this with a firewall?

  • It’s now April: are there any plans to change this yet?

It’s not a huge deal for me, as all my outgoing mail from my VPS gets routed to a smarthost, but it definitely is irritating. I can understand blocking port 25 due to its potential abuse by spammers if somebody configures their mailserver as an open relay, but blocking port 587 (submission) seems odd.

I would really appreciate an update from DO staff too on this issue. As @talideon pointed out, blocking the submission port 587 on ipv6 seems very odd.

We for instance use the google app smtp relay feature for all of our hosted servers to sent out notifications. We want to use ipv6 as much as we can but handicapping mail delivery feels weird.

2018 and we still have smtp over ipv6 blocked on all droplets. I’d love an update from the DO staff.
