Server IP and info with Cloudflare/Digital Ocean

Posted on June 27, 2021

Hi. I configured Cloudflare on my website hosted on Digital Ocean but the website’s IP, location is still exposed on sites like https://hostadvice.com/tools/

I was wondering if it’s possible to hide my server/host details on Digital Ocean as it was hidden before when I hosted the same site on Google Cloud. Thanks!

Hi there @szuhaadalis,

Yes this is doable with all hosting providers. What you need to do is:

  • First add your domain name to Cloudflare
  • Then add all of your DNS records to the Cloudflare DNS zone and make sure that proxy is enabled
  • After that change your Nameservers to the Cloudflare ones

If you do not enable the proxy option in the Cloudflare DNS zone, the actual server IP address will be shown.

Hope that this helps. Regards, Bobby
