setting up gmail domain email to receive emails when using a digital ocean name server

Posted on March 18, 2021

So I tried setting up gmail domain email to receive emails when using a digital ocean name server but to no avail. I tried using this guide but I’m not sure how to set up the TXT record.

The steps I have done so far are as follows. I set up a domain using Google domains. I have set the name servers to be the digital ocean ones, so that I can connect to my server (DO droplet). I also set up an email via Google domains. For example username@mydomain.com. I can send emails from username@mydomain.com but I can’t receive any emails when I have the name servers set as the digital ocean ones. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

So I realized that I needed to setup my MX records on my Digital Ocean networking page. I also activated gmail to receive mail in my admin page on google. It took a little time for the MX records to take effect but once they did I was able to receive email. Hopefully this helps anyone else who is having the same issue.
