Aloha!
I tested our application on a minimal droplet and migrated the data from the production sites which are with another host. Everything works great, now I’m ready to point the DNS to my droplet, but I need to upgrade my droplet first. Apparently that feature is not ready in NY or on some droplets, so I followed the advice from support to take a snapshot, destroy the droplet and build a bigger one from the snapshot. For one reason or another our application does not run 100% on the new droplet, so I need to provision the server from scratch.
What’s the best way to migrate data from one droplet to another that are in the same data centre? Can the data be moved faster via an internal network? I’ve got about 12 Gb of data to move.
Cheers.

You can take a snapshot of the server which we recommend for higher consistency than automated backups and then you can spin up a new server from it. The amount of time it takes for the snapshot to be created is determined by the amount of data you have written.

You can also just setup a new server and migrate the files using rsync which will traverse the local network so you will have 1ms latency and it will transfer very quickly.
THanks for letting me know that that snapshot thing isnt very reliable for backup/restore. Good to know before its a problem.
