Ubuntu 16 + Wordpress + WP Mail SMTP not send contact Form Emails

Hello
I looked at several questions and answers but I still have doubts

I installed wordpress in ubuntu 16 I have my emails on hostgator
Everything is working well

I installed WP Mail SMTP
But the contact form does not send email

Do I need to install postfix?
Or php email?

    I don’t have an answer but I have the same problem. I tried installing Postfix and S-Nail, and while Postfix is installed, I can’t get S-Nail to send any messages because of a debug it doesn’t like. I am using VPS.net’s VPS SSD, and I am also using Ubuntu 16.04 with WordPress.

Hi!

Yes, you will need to install postfix (or any other MTA) to handle the actual process of sending emails. Take a look at the following tutorial which will help you accomplish that:

The last step, Forwarding System Mail, is not necessary and can be skipped if you do not want internal system mail to be forwarded to you.

Postfix is a *mail transfer agent* (MTA), an application used to send and receive email. In this tutorial, we will install and configure Postfix so that it can be used to send emails by local applications only — that is, those installed on the same server that Postfix is installed on.

    Since it is being configured to work one way, will it work if WordPress users either A, forget their passwords and needs to send an e-mail to the user to reset their password? Use a Stripe payment which requires the sending of a receipt? Will it work if someone wants to contact me using the e-mail form?

      Hi @greengablesfan33. Yes, it should still work in all of these cases—the server is not receiving and acting on incoming emails in any of them, so you don’t need to configure Postfix to actually accept emails. If someone submits the contact form, the info is collected using the web page and is then, depending on what plugin you are using, either sent to you via email (an outgoing email from the server) or stored in the WordPress database for you to view later.
