Unable to access email

December 22, 2013 3.7k views
Just set up an email system using Postfix, Dovecot and MySQL. That part seems ok. The only part I'm having problems with, is accessing email using a desktop email client or by webmail. I can log into the server and send email from the command line. I can even see that emails are being received. Obviously something's not right, but I have no idea why. There's nothing in the logs that tell me anything. Any clues?

Just set up an email system using Postfix, Dovecot and MySQL.

Did you follow a particular article on setting up an email server?
Is there a firewall in the way?
Not exactly.

Used http://ur1.ca/g8p27 and http://ur1.ca/g8p2d, but instead of using Postgres, modified it to use MySQL.
@Pablo,

There is a firewall, but the mail-related ports are open.
I can even see that emails are being received.

How can you see that they are being received?
Log in to the server and navigate to the email accounts folders for the domains and view them.
Log in to the server and navigate to the email accounts folders

Do you mean /var/spool/mail? If so, it means that Postfix is not using Postgres, therefore there must be something wrong with your config.
No, the email folders are in /var/mail/vhosts/.

And I used MySQL, not Postgres.
My bad, I meant MySQL. The article is written for Postgres, try following it w/ Postgres on a new droplet and see if that works.
