Weird problem: my website keeps appearing in different hostnames?

I have really a weird problem.

I setup a website last month and everything was OK. It is running perfectly. One day when i was checking my google adsense reports i saw that im earning money from a strange hostname. (www.???.com something like this. I dont want to disclose hostname) When i open that website, it was exact clone of my website. And it was ranking higher than my original website.

I tried to contact the owner of that domain to tell them to stop cloning/mirroring my website but seems like they also dont have any clue.

Things got stranger when i ping that host. It was exact same ip with my droplet? So how is this possible? When i shutdown my droplet that website also goes down:

I didnt understand whats happening. So what i did is, i create a new droplet with new ip and shutdown the previous one. So now my problem was resolved. Because when i visit that domain it was longer available.

Until today…

I am checking my analytic reports and now, this time, i am seeing 3 different domain is mirroring my website!!!

Even when i ping them, they all have same ip with my new droplet! How is this even possible?

Why exact copy of my droplet keep appearing?

Any idea please?

I am running my website on Ubuntu 16.04 machine.

Hi there,

You can’t really do anything against someone that is having your droplet’s IP in their DNS records. A domain is simply just a redirect from something with characters to numbers.

However, what you could do is setting up some restrictions on your webserver. I am not sure if you’re using nginx or apache, but with a simple google search you can do alot ;) For example (for apache):

Seems like those domains also hosted at DigitalOcean and somehow having same ip with my droplet and pointing to my ip.

I think this issue is related with DO. Can someone from DO reply please?
