I’m comparing different SMTP Service Provider options for sending transactional and application emails. I’ve come across services like SMTPmart, but I’m not sure what factors I should prioritize when choosing one. For example, how important are deliverability, IP reputation, bounce handling, SPF/DKIM/DMARC support, sending limits, and pricing?

Would be helpful to hear from people who have tested multiple SMTP providers and can share what worked well for them and what to watch out for.

On evaluation criteria: deliverability and IP reputation matter most for providers using shared sending IPs, ask whether the provider offers dedicated IPs at your volume and how they handle reputation warmup. SPF, DKIM, and DMARC support should be table stakes at this point, any provider worth using will walk you through setting these up on your sending domain, and skipping them is the single most common cause of landing in spam regardless of which provider you pick. Bounce handling matters for list hygiene, look for automatic suppression of hard bounces so you are not repeatedly sending to dead addresses, which itself damages your reputation. Sending limits and pricing are usually tiered by volume, so the honest answer depends on how much you are actually sending. One DigitalOcean-specific thing worth knowing before you pick anything: DigitalOcean blocks outbound SMTP on ports 25, 465, and 587 by default across its infrastructure, this applies to Droplets and App Platform both. So whichever provider you choose, you either need one that supports connecting on a non-standard port like 2525, or better, one that offers an HTTP API instead of SMTP entirely, which sidesteps the port block altogether rather than working around it. Providers like Postmark, Mailgun, Resend, and SendGrid all offer HTTP APIs alongside SMTP for exactly this reason. If you want to request the standard ports unblocked instead, that goes through a DigitalOcean support ticket, but it is not guaranteed to be granted. Regards
