No. When you add your credit card to a new account a pre-auth of $1 may be applied to ensure the card is active but the hold on this $1 should be released by your bank within a couple days. From that point forward you will be charged on the 1st of each month for any balance due from your use of the services. When you launch your first droplet it will begin incurring charges at it’s hourly rate up to a cap in each calendar month of it’s monthly rate.

  • That’s not correct anymore. Digitalocean tries to charge me about $3.
And also they are saying ‘We will not charge you’ What a lie…

    • Hi,

When you add a credit card to your DigitalOcean account, we may send a preauthorization request to the issuing bank. This is to verify that the card being added has been issued by the bank and that they will authorize the charges. These temporary preauthorization holds range from $1 to $15 and may appear on your statement for up to 7 days, but no funds are being transferred from your card or account to DigitalOcean.

      Hope that helps!

      Regards,
      Alex
