Will I be charged if I leave a GPU droplet on with no tasks?

Posted on October 19, 2024

I’d like to create an image generation discord bot that would use the API to generate images. I’d love to use the new GPU droplets. Would I have to turn the droplet on, run the command, and then turn it back off. Or will the droplet staying on only charge me when the GPU is being used?

Hey 👋

We recently had the same question for regural Droplets:

https://www.digitalocean.com/community/questions/when-a-droplet-is-stopped-does-it-incur-only-the-storage-cost-or-vm-cost-too

The same answer will apply for GPU Droplets as well, you will still be billed for a turned off Droplet.

When you try to power off a Droplet via the Control Panel, you would get the following warning:

When a Droplet is off:

Its data and IP address are retained and its disk, CPU and RAM are reserved. You continue to accrue its data transfer allowance.

Warning: You will still be billed for a turned off Droplet. To end billing, destroy the Droplet instead.

Hope that this helps!

Heya,

In short, Yes, you will be charged.

Even though you might not be actively using the Droplet, the resources used by it are still on the system.
