WordPress Website Opens a File instead of the page

I’m having this weird issue that started after I requested a new root password change via Digital Ocean panel. Nothing else happens besides that, and as I can see by Cloudflare analytics, it was definitely after that that the problem started.

Basically, when you try to login into ; it asks you to download this file:

However, if you are logged in, there’s no problem at all. That’s why I only noticed it hours later after a friend sends me an email.

I have tried: - Reinstall the core files of WordPress; - Recreated the htaccess file - Deactivate all the plugins

But nothing seems to work.

Also, I don’t have any line in .htaccess such as:
AddHandler application/x-httpd-php70s .php

Can you guys help me with this?
Is it possible that changing the password, the server was misconfigured?

Thanks in advance.

I’ve seen this with caching plugins, and as the site is working when you are logged in it makes me think that it could be caching in your case as well, as while you are logged in the caching is not active.

I would recommend trying to completely disable your cache plugin and manually clear your cache folder and then test this again with an incognito browser.

Hope that this helps!

  • Hey Bobby,

Thanks a lot for your suggestion.
I have tried that, but no luck so far.

I actually created a local WordPress with XAMPP, upload my backup, and works without a problem.

More and more it looks like is a server configuration problem.
It just started when I changed my root password.

    • Hello,

In the past I remember that I had the same problem with Varnish.

I can see that your site is back up and running now, would you mind sharing with the community what the problem was and how you solved it!

      Thank you and regards,

      • Hey Bobby,
Actually, is not up yet :/
I have noticed something even stranger, and is that if I change the theme, it works for less than 1 min. After that, it creates the same error as before.
