There is a bug in the new App Platform. If you use DigitalOcean Database Cluster, you cannot select an App Platform app as a trusted source. Pretty glaring oversite!

Yeah…this is more than a bit of a show stopper for anyone needing DB support that isn’t PostgreSQL or that needs to use their own DB cluster.

I was excited to get everything wired up and got my project deployed with just the DB to sort out. Unfortunately, you can only either unset trusted sources, which is a pretty big deal for most folks, or you can attach a database…but only PostgreSQL is currently an option (at least in the NY region)? Hrmm.

So far, so good, but the database stuff should be sorted out ASAP. At the very least, perhaps allow folks to select the entire App platform IP range for a sane alternative. Still not great, but way more reasonable. Wide open just doesn’t work for most anyone doing anything serious…or at least it shouldn’t ;)

Thanks for the work you guys are doing on the App platform. Excited by the possibilities!

Hey,

The trusted sources in the managed database cluster won’t work as expected due to the dynamic nature of the App Platform and the unpredictable IP addresses your app instanced will be assigned. We do have plans on our roadmap that will allow connection to the managed database over VPC. There is no ETA when it will be available.

Thanks for surfacing it in our community and appreciate your patience.
